Call of Duty: Modern Fries 2

Updated: Sep 5, 2023

Video games have an incredible ability to transport us to different worlds, captivating our imagination and providing unforgettable experiences. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is one such game that has left a lasting impact on me and many players around the world. Amidst its action-packed gameplay and intense storyline, one particular scene has become legendary in my eyes—the Amsterdam 1 for 1 street level. In this blog post, we embark on a culinary adventure to recreate Amsterdam Fries inspired by Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.

For those who haven't played the game, let's set the stage. In one memorable mission, the player finds themselves in the bustling streets of Amsterdam, surrounded by beautiful canals, shops, restaurants, and churches. Before the chaos, Captain Price enjoys a nice dark lager while surveying the terrorists. I could only imagine some delicious Amsterdam Fries would go great with the beer. It's a brief moment before all hell breaks loose, but has inspired a recipe in my mind.

To recreate the Amsterdam Fries experience, we need to start with the basics—fries! Opt for thick-cut fries to capture the essence of the dish. Once you make fries from scratch you’ll never want to go back.

Ingredients:

  • Russet Potato 2 Pounds

  • White Vinegar 4 Tablespoons

  • Lard 2 Quarts (Vegetable, Peanut, and Canola oil will work too.)

  • Salt 1 Tablespoon

  • Ketchup 2 Tablespoons

  • Mayonaisse 2 Tablespoons

Technique:

  1. Wash and Peel Potatoes

  2. Cut potatoes into 1/4" x 3" pieces.

  3. Boil potatoes in vinegar and water till tender. Roughly 5 minutes.

  4. Strain and dry on a baking sheet lined with paper towels. Let sit 30 minutes.

  5. Heat lard in a Dutch oven or stockpot to 400° F.

  6. Drop fries into the fat in small batches. Don't overcrowd the pan. Fry for 1 1/2 minutes.

  7. Strain from fat, and layout on a metal grate-lined baking sheet.

  8. Freeze overnight or for a minimum of 4 hours

  9. Heat lard or oil back up to 375° F again.

  10. Fry frozen batches of potatoes for 3-4 minutes until golden brown and crispy. Strain onto paper towels.

  11. Season with salt and enjoy with a favorite dipping sauce of your choice. I went with Mayo and Ketchup

For a little closer taste of Amsterdam or Dutch Fries, you can use these toppings:

  1. Gouda Cheese: This Dutch cheese is creamy, rich, and melts beautifully, making it perfect for our fries.

  2. Mayonnaise: A staple condiment in Dutch cuisine, mayo adds a smooth and creamy element to the dish.

  3. Satay Sauce: A classic Indonesian peanut sauce, often paired with fries in the Netherlands.

  4. Onions: Finely chopped raw onions add a refreshing crunch and a hint of sharpness.

  5. Fresh Herbs: Parsley or chives can be sprinkled over the fries to add freshness.

Creating the Amsterdam Fries from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 allows us to bring a virtual culinary masterpiece into the real world. Whether you're a fan of the game or simply curious about Dutch street food, this dish is sure to satisfy your cravings. So gather your friends, fire up the game for some nostalgic fun, and savor the Amsterdam Fries—it's a delicious way to merge the worlds of gaming and gastronomy.
